The Maritimo S50 Sedan Motor Yacht Development Update

As the Global Launch of the new S50 rapidly approaches, several standout elements are coming into sharp focus. Each of these reinforces the fact that this will be the most definitive ‘S’ model in Maritimo’s history. The very sporty hardtop is now at the moulding stage, as too is the unique to this model boot, come seating, entertainment, and stowage console that sits out along the back of the larger cockpit space.

Just like the M50, Maritimo will keep this first build of the S50 luxury sedan motor yacht for at least six months for ‘real-world’ testing, review and demonstration purposes. As Phil Candler, General Manager, Operations at Maritimo says, “We learned so much by having the first M50 for seven months. It travelled extensively along the Australian east coast, going up to the Great Barrier Reef, as well as down to Sydney. This process is something we’ll keep doing from here, even with the bigger craft. This newly adopted program has very much helped with the sales process, as more people could get up close and personal, as well as spend time on this luxury motor yacht.”

The first vessel of the new Maritimo S50 will run the standard twin Volvo Penta 800hp units. It will be on display at the annual Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show from May 21-24, 2026. It will be set off by the marvellous Oak timber interior, that due to its light colour, which adds a modern and fresh appeal to the very spaces it seems to open up.

Close on the heels of this first S50 will be the second craft, which is bound for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, running from October 28 to November 1, 2026. Not only does this mean Maritimo fans on both sides of the Pacific will be able to view the new S50 at what is arguably each country’s premier show, the second craft will be differentiated by having a coloured hull and hardtop.

Another feature only available on the S50 will be the use of Volvo-Penta D13s rated to 1000hp each with ZF’s 2.2:1 reduction gearboxes turning the three-inch shafts and larger pitch propellers to take it into the low 30-knot mark at full throttle. This second hull of the new S50 model will be complimented by a satin Walnut timber fitout offering a luxurious and rich ambience, from its deeper tones and distinct linear grain.

“This second craft will also spend six months under company ownership on the East Coast of the USA, as a part of our review and sales process in this key market,” added Candler.

Continual refinement is part of the Maritimo ethos. Performance is viewed in a holistic way, and encompasses not only displacement, weight distribution, and power, but propeller selection, and overall fuel reserves (3700l in the case of S50), as well as noise and comfort for extended periods underway, and also at anchor. Changes in laminate structures that still ensure Maritimo’s famous rigidity and seakeeping prowess, are complimented by the use of the tuneable Seakeeper Ride that is now available on vessels up to 55 feet. Humphree Interceptors will also be available as the move away from traditional trim tabs that cannot be programmed, as such, continues.

“The new look of the S50 is striking. It’s a significant evolution, building on the successful S ethos. Everything to do with the hardtop, the back end of the boat, and the boot, is all new and a different configuration. We will have the ability to put a tender inside in the boot. The refinement of our ‘S’ boats is a focus for us as the variant continues to gain more and more followers. They are very much a different proposition to our Flybridge Motor Yachts,” said Candler.

“Even in the last year we have seen yet another surge in the uptake for S55 and S60. This will definitely rise again once people see the new S50, and what it can do. No longer is it a case of older clients not wanting to climb the stairs to the bridge. The last 12-months has seen the average age of our clients becoming much younger. Our Sedan Motor Yachts have a very different look and appeal, which is making it easier for people to step up from outboard craft in the 35–45-foot range.”

“People do like to stay out/and aboard much longer on our vessels. By way of example, the distances our US based Sedan Motor Yachts travel ranges from the not too far from home port, to travelling from the Great Lakes to the Bahamas each year. The new S50 recognises this, and the extra 300mm in the cockpit is all about allowing the maximum liveable and shareable spaces, even without the bridge deck,” added Candler.

With the new boot able to stow a small tender, like a Takacat, the double actuating swim platform has been further refined, and now comes up even higher, but still reduces overall vessel length by ‘folding’ away vertically.

“The S50 project is very exciting, not only for all the refinements we have placed into the vessel, but that there will be two totally different boats for people to review and experience. 2026 is truly a global launch year for us and the magnificent S50. It’s a terrific milestone, and the vessel itself will appeal to both our existing clientele and a whole new type of buyer looking for the quality, modern style, and loads of amenity that only a Maritimo luxury motor yacht offers.
