Caribbean C40 Flybridge Production Update

The return of the Caribbean 40 marks a pivotal chapter for Caribbean Boats, led by the launch of the reimagined model. Now under the stewardship of Maritimo and guided by the experience of Bill Barry-Cotter, this new generation signals a deliberate and highly engineered evolution of one of Australia’s most respected offshore platforms.

The model has always represented genuine versatility — a vessel equally capable as a serious offshore sportfisherman and just as much as a refined family cruiser. That philosophy remains central to the Caribbean 40, but the execution has been elevated in every respect. This is not a nostalgic recreation; it is a comprehensive redevelopment that strengthens the core attributes of the marque whilst embracing contemporary design, production methodology, and engineering precision.

Two defining principles underpin the Caribbean 40’s return. The first is visual evolution. The unmistakable offshore stance that defined earlier generations remains immediately recognisable, yet the lines are sharper, the proportions more resolved, and the detailing more contemporary. The flybridge integrates cleanly with the deckhouse below, presenting a cohesive and confident profile. The result is a vessel that honours its heritage, whilst projecting a modern, purposeful identity.

The second advancement lies beneath the surface. The Caribbean 40 now incorporates advanced internal liners throughout the accommodation spaces and engine room, a significant step forward in build integrity and finish consistency. This construction approach increases structural rigidity, enhances alignment and contributes to reduced onboard acoustics. It also refines ergonomics and safety, delivering a vessel engineered not only for offshore performance, but for long-term durability and owner confidence.

The proven offshore hull platform remains at the heart of the design, complemented by a subtle increase in freeboard that enhances dryness underway, improves internal volume, and reinforces the vessel’s commanding presence. From this foundation upward, the model has been entirely reimagined.

The foredeck can be configured as a dedicated relaxation zone with a lounge arrangement ideal for entertaining at anchor or equipped to carry a 2.5-metre tender supported by an integrated crane system. This flexibility ensures owners can tailor the vessel to suit cruising priorities or extended offshore pursuits without compromise.

The deckhouse architecture has been comprehensively redesigned to improve both functionality and aesthetics. Forward-facing glazing is concentrated in the centre section of the leading edge, a decision that allows a full-height galley installation across the forward bulkhead of the main saloon. This configuration delivers a genuinely contemporary galley environment, incorporating a standing domestic refrigerator, extensive pantry, expansive preparation surfaces and integrated storage solutions that maximise vertical space. The arrangement also accommodates a large television on the starboard side, positioned for comfortable viewing from the saloon seating.

On the Portside, a generous U-shaped banquette provides substantial seating for family and guests and converts seamlessly into a double berth when required. In this configuration, the Caribbean 40 comfortably sleeps six, reinforcing its capability as a capable family cruiser, all the while maintaining its offshore focus.

The cockpit has been engineered for versatility and workflow efficiency. A substantial lazarette offers significant storage capacity, while the coaming can be configured with a live bait well for dedicated fishing applications, or alternatively adapted to house a barbecue station for entertaining. Across the forward cockpit bulkhead, a freezer installation ensures ample cold storage, complemented on the opposing side by either additional cooking facilities, or purpose-designed tackle drawers. The layout preserves clear movement and practical working space, whether the vessel is hosting guests or preparing for serious offshore angling.

Bridge access has been thoughtfully refined. Entry is now integrated through the deckhead via a secure hatch system, replacing the traditional externally mounted ladder arrangement. This improves safety, enhances weather protection and contributes to a cleaner exterior aesthetic.

Once on the bridge, the transformation is equally evident. The layout is entirely new, featuring substantial storage and a centrally mounted helm console positioned along the aft end. Twin helm chairs provide balanced visibility and control, while the demountable hardtop and console structure allow reduced overall height for road transport when required — a practical consideration for Australian owners.

True to its heritage, the 14 metric tonne Caribbean 40 will be offered in two distinct configurations tailored to family cruising or serious sportfishing. The differentiation is purposeful rather than cosmetic, ensuring each owner receives a vessel aligned with their intended use, whilst retaining the structural integrity and offshore capability at the heart of the design.

Standard power is a pair of Volvo-Penta D6 engines rated to 440hp, paired with ZF 85A gearboxes featuring a 2:1 reduction ratio. The standard drivetrain combination provides a balanced blend of torque, efficiency and range from the 2300 litres of fuel capacity. A higher output package will be available to enable owners to specify performance suited to extended coastal cruising, tournament fishing campaigns, or relaxed family passages. Reliability and serviceability remain central to the engineering brief.

Production of the Caribbean 40 benefits from the scale, systems and quality control processes synonymous with Maritimo’s manufacturing capability. Hull and liner integration are managed with precise structural bonding and alignment protocols, and then mechanical and electrical installations follow disciplined engineering stages. This structured methodology ensures consistency across each vessel and reinforces a long-term commitment to durability and finish quality.

Beyond materials and mechanical specification, the broader objective has been clear: retain what earned the Caribbean name its offshore reputation and then strengthen every element that modern design and production can improve. The badge remains proudly displayed on the hips, the stance resolute and the purpose unmistakable. Importantly, beneath that identity lies a thoroughly contemporary structure built to meet the expectations of a whole new generation of owners.

The Caribbean 40 does more than reintroduce a model; it reasserts itself as a serious, versatile and enduring offshore platform. Reimagined with structural precision, refined with practical intelligence, and produced with the backing of one of Australia’s most respected boat builders, the Caribbean 40 stands ready to define the next era of the brand’s evolution.
